The National Youth Bike Council Is Paving the Way for Youth to Have a Voice in the Cycling Community.

July 30, 2021 (COLORADO SPRINGS, CO) – USA Cycling is proud to award the National Youth Bike Council with a DEI Micro-Grant. The NYBC is a youth-led non-profit that creates a space for young people in the cycling community to share and develop ideas. They host in-person and virtual events to engage with youth riders and moderate a safe environment for active learning between youth cyclists.

“We want youth in the biking community to feel empowered and have the tools, leadership skills, and youth role models necessary to be leaders in their own community. All of our Council members and advisors are volunteers, and our operations rely on donors and grants to provide those leadership tools. More than anything, receiving this grant means that we are being taken seriously; as youth leaders, that is something that is not often felt by adults in the industry,” said NYBC treasurer Zoe Mitchell. “We are deeply grateful to USA Cycling for believing in us and investing in youth leaders across the country.”

The micro-grant will allow the NYBC to send several members and advisors to the Youth Bike Summit which will be taking place in Atlanta, Georgia later this year.

“We are thankful for the opportunity to support the NYBC, which is taking responsibility for identifying, preparing, and empowering the next generation of cycling industry leaders and riders. The fact that this effort is totally youth-led is truly inspiring. We are excited to play a small role in helping the Council extend its reach and impact," said Kelsey Erickson, Executive Director of Athlete Health and Wellness and member of USA Cycling's DEI Task Force.

USA Cycling’s DEI Micro-Grant Program was launched with a view to empower groups, organizations, and programs that champion diversity, equity, and inclusion in the American cycling community. Learn more about the Program here. Donate to the DEI Fund here.
