Shane Garman promoted to USA Cycling’s General Counsel

USA Cycling announced today the promotion of Shane Garman to General Counsel where he will be responsible for advising USA Cycling on all legal matters including, governance, contracts, intellectual property, insurance/risk management, disciplinary issues and dispute resolution, as well as managing litigation and overseeing USA Cycling’s SafeSport Program.

Garman, who most recently served as USA Cycling’s Legal counsel, joined the organization in 2014. Prior to joining USA Cycling, Shane was Of Counsel with the law firm of Hassan and Cables where he represented clients in a variety of matters including entity formation, contracts, real estate, intellectual property, employment, civil litigation and dispute resolution.

“For the past five years, Shane has helped USA Cycling develop programs that have benefited and protected our athletes and members,” said Rob DeMartini, President and CEO of USA Cycling, “As a rider and local cycling community leader, he knows the sport from many angles. Shane will continue to make an impact in the sport for years to come.”

Garman is on the Board of Directors for Advance Colorado Fund, a Colorado nonprofit corporation that produces the Bailey Hundo, a 100-mile mountain bike fundraising race supporting the Colorado Mountain Bike Association, Colorado High School Cycling League and Trips for Kids Denver Metro.

“Cycling has been a huge part of my life and I feel fortunate to be able to make an impact on the sport I love,” said Garman, “I am proud to take on a larger leadership role in an organization that continues to put members and customers first. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to protect and give back to the cycling community.”
