Sports are much more than just a game or just a competition. Sports are an opportunity to learn more about yourself and develop skills that will benefit you in and out of competition. National Girls and Women in Sports Day is all about celebrating and encouraging the involvement of females in sports, so more women can emerge as leaders in sports and life.
We had the opportunity to ask cyclists in our community what sport has meant to them throughout their lives and how they will #LeadHerForward!
Here is what Clara Brown had to say:
What has sport meant to you throughout your life?
Sports have shaped my entire life. They have been the foundation for my closest friendships and relationships, taught me how to set and manage goals, best manage my time, and encouraged me to live an active lifestyle beyond competitive sport.
What advice would you give your younger self?
Your athletic career has no set path that you must follow, so don’t put unnecessary pressure on yourself to be or do anything that doesn’t fulfill you. To that point, have the courage to try something new - you never know where it will lead you!
How will you #LeadHerForward?
I’m hoping to build upon the foundation of the amazing women before me who have paved the way for equality and inclusion, and lead by example, demonstrating that sports should be accessible to everybody, no matter your background or ability level. I’m excited to be involved with organizations such as Outride, who provide a larger platform to help spread the mission of creating a more inclusive space in sport and getting more kids to be active from a young age.
