Three years after a tragic crash, Chloe Dygert wins the Elite Women’s Individual Pursuit. It’s her first world championship title since 2020.

The 2023 UCI Cycling World Championships started with Chloé Dygert  (Brownsburg, Ind.; CANYON//SRAM Racing) winning the Women’s Individual Pursuit taking her 11th World Title. Today, Dygert made her Track World Championships return after a crash at the 2020 UCI Road World Championships. The last time Dygert raced the Individual Pursuit, she won the World Title in 2020, simultaneously setting the world record. Going into the gold medal round, she went head-to-head with Fran Brausse (Germany). Stopping the clock at 3:17.542, Dygert’s time was less than a second off her time in 2020.

When talking about the event, Dygert said,

“It’s been a long three years to get back here. After 2020 and Tokyo, I worked with my medical team, the staff at USA Cycling, and Canyon/SRAM to get me to the point where my body felt like I could compete at this level again. The goal is always to go faster, but this ride felt good. Wearing the rainbow stripes is always an honor, and I’m proud to be able to wear them again.”

Dygert has a busy week ahead of her still. She’ll be competing in the Women’s Team Pursuit beginning on Friday. She’ll then switch over to the road discipline and compete in the Elite Women’s Time Trial on August 10, and the Elite Women’s Road Race on August 13. When asked about her schedule, she said, “I’m taking this one event at a time. Next up for me is the Women’s Team Pursuit, where the girls and I are focused on bring home another medal for the U.S. I’ll spend a day or two resting, and then focus on the Time Trial.”
