Collegiate Omnium Standings After Cyclocross Nationals

Following a close battle at cyclocross nationals, the collegiate team omnium standings have solidified in some divisions, while remaining up for grabs by anyone in others. With only two events remaining in the 2017-18 school year it will be a tight race.

The overall omnium saw many changes after the 2018 USA Cycling Collegiate Cyclocross Championships in Reno, Nev. With two more events left this school year, the respective titles are beginning to solidify in dome divisions as schools continue to fight for position on the top step.

In the Division I Club omnium, The University of Colorado Boulder has Virginia Polytechnic University in the dust, solidifying their lead where they used to be tied. A repeat victory would not be a surprise for the buffs from Boulder, as long as a they are able to bring full men's and women's squads to road nationals. Rising up through the ranks is in state rival, Colorado State University as well as Stanford University. These teams put in strong performances at both mountain bike and cyclocross nationals, and their combined efforts in those events have landed them to the podium, for now.

The United States Military Academy continues to lead the Division II Club omnium, though a hard charging University of Vermont is right on their wheel after victories at both mountain bike and cyclocross nationals. New to the podium is Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, making their first appearance. For these schools with minimal BMX presence it will all come down to road nationals.

Marian University, the favorites to win the overall Division I Varsity award after having done so the previous five years, has a expanded their lead over Colorado Mesa University. The school from Indiana was in a tight battle with Fort Lewis College for the top step at cyclocross nationals, and took it with a second place finish in the team relay. Fort Lewis remains in third, though not out of the hunt. These three schools are likely to compete at the remaining two events in the omnium, with a tight battle expected all the way until Road Nationals in May.

Finally, Belmont Abbey College ceded their top step on the podium to Mars Hill University, winners of the 2016-17 omnium. Belmont remains in the game though, with King University stepping into third place following strong finishes at both mountain bike and cyclocross nationals.

The next event on the Collegiate Omnium schedule is the USA Cycling BMX National Championships West Monroe, La.
